LITERARY BIRTHS
Every effort is made to verify birthdates, years, name spellings,
pseudonyms, and other information included on these pages. If you
find an error, PLEASE drop me a quick e-mail
so I can investigate and correct it.
Additions are always welcome; when suggesting a writer, please provide the address
of at least one web page with information about him or her.
Don't forget! Besides browsing births by months, you can also search the entire library site for a name. Remember to
use quotes for phrases or you could end up with a lot of meaningless search results.
- Calendar of Authors (Kuusankoski Public Library, Finland):
With alphabetical listing and date indexes. Large list, all link to essays on the authors, many detailed.
- Dr. Mac's Cultural Calendar:
Almanac that lists and sometimes describes events in literature, history, religion, and classical music
that have occured on each date. Some interesting commentary.
- Children's and YA Authors Birthdays (originally Donnie Curtis, now Kathy Schrock):
Birthdays listed by month, with whole year on page at once.
- Public Radio's "The Writers Almanac" (Minnesota Public Radio):
Weekly entries with same info about authors and literary figures that are read on
the daily radio program. Also poem and author index.

- History Place Calendar:
Events calendar that includes birthdays. Each event listing contains a paragraph of
detail. Some literary events included. Some links (for authors, the links are mostly to photos).
- The History Channel's This Day in Literary History
- Scope Systems Any-Day-In-History:
Historical calendar, includes literary events and birthdays.
Arranged by month and day, so to see all authors born in single month,
you have to click on 28-31 days individually. I've found a number of date errors in
this calendar, but it is large, extensive, and often lists more obscure (to us
20th-century Americans) writers.
- A Calendar of Women of Achievement and Herstory (Irene Stuber):
Lists women-focused events and births of important women, some of them writers, by month,
with a 12-month search feature. Some commentary. No links.
