InterLibrary Loan

We are fortunate in Maine to have access to an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) system that provides WPL patrons with books from a large network of public and university libraries. ILL is a very efficient way to provide technical, esoteric, expensive, and specialty books to our patrons. Because we can obtain books for loan for only the cost of postage, we can provide almost any book to our patrons on request without having to purchase the book ourselves.

It's easy and it's free (up to four books per month). Here's how it works:

  • Get information about the book you want. Use the "Other Library Catalogs" listed on the menu. You'll need:
    • Title
    • Author
    • Publication Date and Company (if known)
    • Any particular edition or volume required
    • an ISBN number or the LC (Library of Congress) number (if possible)
  • You will also need your WPL library card number (or full name if card number not known) and your phone number.
  • To request an InterLibrary Loan: gather this information and call 247-3363 or email your request to librarian@waterborolibrary.org.
  • Wait 1-2 weeks (occasionally longer) for the book(s) to be mailed from a participating library to our library. A librarian will contact you when your loan request is filled.

You can also check Amazon.com or isbn.nu for ISBN numbers, various edition descriptions, and reviews.
