Maine Writers Index - Detail (Return to List) James A Hetley (1947 - )![]() James A Hetley (1947 - ) Bangor resident and fantasy author Jim Hetley is a self-employed architect, a retired Kempo karate instructor, and a Vietnam-era veteran who has lived for the past 30 or so years in Maine. His weblog is called Strange Days Have Found Us. A 2004 interview with Hetley at SF Site provides more background about him and some description of his books. Hetley's titles, in the subgenre of 'dark contemporary fantasy,' include The Summer Country (2002) and The Winter Oak (2004), both featuring Maureen and Jo Pierce, sisters and witches, of fictional Naskeag Falls, Maine ('an amalgam of Bangor and Lewiston/Auburn, with University of Maine at Orono tacked on'), and Dragon's Eye (2005) and Dragon's Teeth (2006), both featuring the Morgan (shapechangers) and Haskell (witches) families of fictional hardscrabble Stonefort, Maine ('a small coastal community modeled on Stonington or Jonesport'). Two more titles, Ghost Point ('Beowulf meets The Taming of the Shrew' on the Maine coast) and Pendragon Autumn, are in the works. |
