Maine Writers Index - Detail (Return to List) Ann Allen Brahms (1938 - )Genre: Non-Fiction, General FictionBorn in Portland, Maine, on 19 April 1938 (1937?), Ann Brahms published autobiographical articles in Greater Portland, Down East, and Good Old Days in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Prior to that, she and her husband Paul co-authored Puppy Ed: Training Your Dog at an Early Age (1981/1986), a highly regarded book that has been recommended by the association that places puppies with families who begin the young dogs' training as guide dogs for the blind. Brahms, one of Martin Dibner's (q.v.) writing students, published her first novel, The Burying Point in 1991. It, like her other novels, Cloak of Darkness (1992) and Run for Your Life (1993), is a romantic suspense novel set in Maine. After many years of trying to find a publisher for her autobiography, Brahms self-published The Key Is Under the Flower Pot (1999), the story of her childhood and adolescence in Portland's West End. Her memoir, Nana's House: A Memoir (2003), is the story of her family in the 1970s. There's a July 2003 interview with Brahms online at aroundmaine.com (with photo).
