Children's book writer Barbara Ware Holmes was born in Virginia and lives now in both Collingswood, New Jersey, and Port Clyde, Maine. She received her M.A. from Northeastern University in 1969. Her fiction includes Charlotte Cheetham, Master of Disaster (1985), Charlotte the Starlet (1988), Charlotte Shakespeare & Annie the Great (1989), My Sister the Sausage Roll (1997), Letters to Julia (1997; won the ALA Best Young Adult Novel award; Amazon reviews of Letters), and Following Fake Man (2001), which is set in Maine.
