Maine Writers Index - Detail (Return to List) Bernd Heinrich (1940 - )Bernd Heinrich (1940 - ) Heinrich (born 19 April 1940) is a naturalist, a scientist, and a world-class ultra-marathon runner (he was a member of the Univ. of Maine cross-country team). Heinrich teaches at the University of Vermont and lives almost half the year in a rustic Maine cabin that he built himself. Heinrich has a page about himself and his research through the Univ. of Vermont website, and there is a short abstract of a longer article about Heinrich that appeared in Smithsonian's Nov. 1997 issue online.
