Old Gardening Books Online (Free)
Google's made some old gardening books available in their entirety online (some are also available for free PDF download), reports May Dreams Gardens. Included are Gleanings in Old Garden Literature by William Carew Hazlitt (1892); The Garden Month by Month describing the appearance, colors, dates of bloom, and cultivation of all desirable, hardy plants for the formal or wild garden, with additional lists of aquatics, vines, etc., by Mabel Cabot Sedgwick (1907), and Cyclopedia of American Horticulture by L. H. Bailey and Wilhelm Miller (1902).Some others available are: Landscape-gardening by O. C. Simonds (1920); Plant Materials of Decorative Gardening: The Woody Plants by William Trelease (1917); The Window Gardener by Edward Sprague Rand (1873); and the newer For Hunger-Proof Cities: Sustainable Urban Food Systems, edited by Mustafa Koc et al. (1999).
